- Read verses 1-13. When and where was Jesus tempted? (1,2) How did the Devil tempt Jesus? (3,5-7,9-11; Ge 3:1-7; 1Jn 2:16) What do the temptations mean to Jesus and to us? How did Jesus overcome them all? (4,8,12,13) What do you learn from his answer?
- Read verses 14-21. Where did Jesus begin his ministry and why? (14,15; Isa 9:1-5) What specific passage did Jesus read to his townspeople? (16-19; Isa 61:1,2) What did he declare? (20,21; cf. 3:22; 4:1,14) Think about their privileges and blessings that they would receive.
- Read verses 22-30. Yet, what was their response to the Good News and why? (22,16a,23) Which stories did Jesus tell them and why? (24-27; 1Ki 17:7-24; 2Ki 5:1-19a) How did they reject Jesus? (28-30)
- Read verses 31-41. What did Jesus do in Capernaum? (31-32) How did Jesus drive out demons and heal the sick? (33-41) What was Jesus’ mission? (42-44) What is your mission from God?
